The Potential Influence of Organic Food Consumption and Intention-Behavior Gap on Consumers’ Subjective Wellbeing
(2020-05-18)
This paper applied a self-administered survey to investigate the impact of organic food behavior and the intention-behavior gap in organic food consumption (OIBG) on consumers’ subjective wellbeing including physical, emotional, social and intellectual dimensions. The survey was carried out with 385 consumers. Furthermore, the study conducted a food test to explore the different impacts of organic and conventional food samples on the mental and physical conditions of consumers’ wellbeing applying a psychological ...

Multi-Scale Governance of Sustainable Natural Resource Use—Challenges and Opportunities for Monitoring and Institutional Development at the National and Global Level
(2016-08-09)
In a globalized economy, the use of natural resources is determined by the demand of modern production and consumption systems, and by infrastructure development. Sustainable natural resource use will require good governance and management based on sound scientific information, data and indicators. There is a rich literature on natural resource management, yet the national and global scale and macro-economic policy making has been underrepresented. We provide an overview of the scholarly literature on multi-scale ...

Mitigating pro-poor housing failures: Access theory and the politics of urban governance
(2021-06-25)
Looking at evolving urban governance and planning practices in the city of Lahore, Pakistan, the article aims to understand—from an Evolutionary Governance Theory perspective—to what extent these practices steer paths and modes of service provision and housing for low-income residents. With a focus on the endurance and transformations of urban governance practices and institutions, we first explore the influence of the changing development discourse and the impact it has had on the (re)configuration of urban governance ...

Soil N₂O flux and nitrification and denitrification gene responses to feed-induced differences in the composition of dairy cow faeces
(2021-05-17)
Faeces from cows with different milk yield and non-lactating cows were applied to soil to investigate whether soil N₂O efflux is related to feeding-induced differences in faecal microbiome and abundances of nitrification and denitrification genes. Fungal 18S-rRNA gene abundance was the highest in the faeces of the non-lactating group. The 18S-rRNA/ergosterol ratio showed a strong positive correlation with the 18S-rRNA/fungal glucosamine ratio. The milk-yield groups did not affect the gene abundances of bacterial 16S ...

Rigorous 3D modeling of confocal microscopy on 2D surface topographies
(2021-06-07)
Although optical 3D topography measurement instruments are widespread, measured profiles suffer from systematic deviations occurring due to the wave characteristics of light. These deviations can be analyzed by numerical simulations. We present a 3D modeling of the image formation of confocal microscopes. For this, the light-surface interaction is simulated using two different rigorous methods, the finite element method and the rigorous coupled-wave analysis. The image formation in the confocal microscope is simulated ...

Immunolocalization of Arthropsin in the Onychophoran Euperipatoides rowelli (Peripatopsidae)
(2016-08-04)
Opsins are light-sensitive proteins that play a key role in animal vision and are related to the ancient photoreceptive molecule rhodopsin found in unicellular organisms. In general, opsins involved in vision comprise two major groups: the rhabdomeric (r-opsins) and the ciliary opsins (c-opsins). The functionality of opsins, which is dependent on their protein structure, may have changed during evolution. In arthropods, typically r-opsins are responsible for vision, whereas in vertebrates c-opsins are components of ...

Tailoring Phospholes for Imprint of Fluorescent 3D Structures
(2019-11-06)
PMMA based polymer blends have been infused with luminescent phospholes and have been structured via nanoimprint. While symmetrically substituted phospholes are prone to crystallization and phase separation, structural modification of the phosphole backbone in the α‐ and β‐positions has been explored, which prevents these issues; a structural explanation for this is suggested. Best phase integrity has been obtained for β‐silyl‐substituted phospholes, which were implemented in thin films and beads. The emission ...

On the Evolution of Residual Stresses, Microstructure and Cyclic Performance of High-Manganese Austenitic TWIP-Steel after Deep Rolling
(2019-07-25)
The mechanical properties and the near surface microstructure of the high-manganese twinning-induced plasticity (TWIP) steel X40MnCrAl19-2 have been investigated after deep rolling at high (200 ∘C ), room and cryogenic temperature using different deep rolling forces. Uniaxial tensile tests reveal an increase in yield strength from 400 MPa to 550 MPa due to surface treatment. The fatigue behavior of selected conditions was analyzed and correlated to the prevailing microstructure leading to an increased number of cycles ...

Topic space trajectories
(2021-05-15)
The annual number of publications at scientific venues, for example, conferences and journals, is growing quickly. Hence, even for researchers it becomes harder and harder to keep track of research topics and their progress. In this task, researchers can be supported by automated publication analysis. Yet, many such methods result in uninterpretable, purely numerical representations. As an attempt to support human analysts, we present topic space trajectories, a structure that allows for the comprehensible tracking ...
